Getting Started

Charging the Device

Barkbuddy Go comes with a built-in rechargeable battery. Before first use, we recommend fully charging the unit.

  • Charging: Connect the provided cable to the charging port on the device and plug the other end into a standard USB charger (5V) or computer port. The LED indicator will display a RED light.
  • Fully Charged: The LED indicator will turn GREEN.
  • Charging Time: Approximately 1.5 – 2 hours.
  • Battery Life: The device can last up to 30 days on standby, though frequent use of the ultrasonic and flashlight modes will require more frequent charging.

Barkbuddy Go features a simple button layout designed for instant operation. Familiarize yourself with the buttons on your specific unit (typically located on the face or side of the handle):

  • Ultrasonic Button (Training Mode): Emits a high-frequency ultrasonic sound (approx. 25kHz) that is inaudible to humans but attention-grabbing for dogs. Press and hold this button to stop barking or correct behaviour. The LED light may flash to indicate the signal is active.
  • Flashlight Button / Switch: Activates the built-in LED light. Use this for visibility during night walks.

How to Use Barkbuddy Go

The Ultrasonic Button

When your dog begins to bark excessively or when it is unwanted:

  1. Point the speaker end of the Barkbuddy Go directly at the dog.
  2. Press and hold the Ultrasonic Button for 1–2 seconds.
  3. Release the button immediately once the dog stops the unwanted behaviour.
  4. Reward them immediately with praise or a treat to reinforce the quiet behaviour.

Effective Range

Barkbuddy Go is most effective within a range of 5–10 metres (approx. 16–32 feet). While the device can reach up to 15 metres (50 feet) in open spaces, obstacles like walls, trees, or fences will block the ultrasonic waves. Ensure you have a clear line of sight to the dog.

The LED Light Function

Barkbuddy Go is equipped with a built-in LED flashlight for night walks or dark environments.

  • To Use: Press the Light Button (or toggle the switch, depending on your model) to turn the flashlight ON/OFF.
  • Note: Using the light continuously will drain the battery faster.

Training Tips for Best Results

  • Combine with Commands: Always use a verbal command (e.g., "Quiet" or "No") in conjunction with the device. This helps the dog associate the command with the correction.
  • Positive Reinforcement: As soon as your dog stops barking and becomes quiet, reward them immediately with praise, a treat, or a pat. This reinforces that silence leads to good things.
  • Consistency is Key: Use the device consistently whenever the unwanted behaviour occurs. Intermittent use may confuse the dog.
  • Do Not Overuse: Do not hold the button down continuously. Short bursts (1–3 seconds) are safe and effective. Holding the button for too long may cause the dog to ignore the sound.

The device is a tool to disrupt unwanted, excessive barking behaviour, not a cure-all. It works best when combined with the tips above.

Important Safety Information

  • Line of Sight: Ultrasonic sound does not travel through solid objects like glass, doors, or thick walls. The device works best when you are in the same area as the dog.
  • Age Restrictions: The device may be less effective on puppies under 6 months (whose hearing is not fully developed) and older dogs with hearing loss.
  • Not for Aggressive Dogs: Do not use this product to defend against aggressive or vicious dogs.
  • Human Hearing: Do not hold the device close to human ears, as the high frequency can be uncomfortable even if not consciously heard.
